The Mercantile Volleyball Association of Sri Lanka, kicking off another exciting year, had their Annual General Meeting on 22nd February at the Olympic House, Colombo.

Mr. Thilak Thilakarathne and Mr. A.S. Nalaka were appointed as the President and the Senior Vice President, respectively. A competent and energetic Executive Committee was also appointed amongst the senior officials of the Mercantile Sector organizations.

The MVA – Sri Lanka is making arrangements to continue the legacy it has created in the mercantile sporting arena in the country with its main annual event, the Mercantile Volleyball Championship, this year as well. The tentative dates are set for the preliminary matches and the finals in the month of August / September 2025.

The Mercantile Volleyball Championship is planned to be conducted under four categories this year: Super League, Championship, A – Division, and Masters. The Masters’ category, introduced at the Mercantile Volleyball Championship last year with only the Men’s category, was received with much enthusiasm and excitement by the participating members, which led to the addition of a Women’s category being planned for this year.

The MVA – Sri Lanka has also included the provision of allowing one external player for Super League & Masters teams, to increase the competitiveness and glamour of the event. In the Super League category, this provision extends to the external player being a foreign national.

Many corporate giants in Sri Lanka are on board with the MVA – Sri Lanka, providing financial support as well as membership and participation this year too. MVA – Sri Lanka is confident that they will be able to continue the glamour, excitement, and attractive prize structure that they have maintained throughout the years into this year as well.

All mercantile sector entities are invited and encouraged to send in teams to this year’s Mercantile Volleyball Championship by obtaining membership of the Association on or before the 15th of July 2025. All the players are to be recruited by the 31st of March 2025 as employees of respective organizations to be eligible to play in this year’s tournament.
