“Munchee Sixes” 21st U-19 Schools Invitation Cricket Sixes 2013

The “Munchee Sixes” Schools invitation six-a-side cricket Tournament 2013 will be held on the 05th and 06th October 2013 at Campbell Park for the 21st consecutive year.

The Tournament is sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Limited and is organized by the Old Wesleyites’ Sports Club (OWSC).

This prestigious six-a-side cricket tournament is the only schools tournament played with the blessings of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association. Participating this year will be teams on invitation which includes all the past Champion teams. All matches will be monitored and supervised by a three member Technical Committee. Individual performances will be judged by an independent adjudicator / Umpires.

Many school boys who played this tournament are now representing Sri Lankan national team. Mahela Jayewardene (the first player to score 50 in this tournament), T.M.Dilshan, Farveez Maharoof, Angelo Matthews, Thisara Perera, Dinesh Chandimal are amongst others  who have excelled in this tournament, we are sure many more budding cricketers will use this platform to perform against best schools around Sri Lanka.

The two day tournament will facilitate post media coverage/ highlights will be telecast via a recognized TV channel.  Defending the “Munchee Trophy 2013” is D.S.Senanayake College with St. Peters as the OWSC trophy runner-up.

– The Champion Team will receive the “Munchee Sixes Trophy”
– The Runner up will be awarded the “Old Wesleyites’ Sports Club Trophy”
For individual performances awards will be given to: Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best Fielder, Highest No. of sixes, Man-of-the-Finals and Most Valuable Player of the Tournament
– Most Discipline Team – will be adjudicated by the Umpires and the Technical committee.
– Medals for the champion team and runner up team
– Certificates for the participating teams
– Special gift packs from CBL for participating teams

Old Wesleyites Cricket sixes is the only schools tournament organized with the blessings of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and played under the laws of cricket laid down by M.C.C. All matches will be monitored and supervised by a three member Technical Committee.

This year they have invited the best out of best teams from Colombo, out station and past winners to add quality cricket for the tournament. The tournament will be played on a knock out basis with 28 teams played in 2 groups as per the match draw.

Accommodation and meals for all participating teams from outstation has been organized at the Wesley College Hostel including lunch and refreshments for all participating teams on both days.

The Old Wesleyites’ Sports Club (OWSC) came to being in 1941 as an Old Boys Sports Club of one of the most prestigious Boys schools Wesley College, in Colombo. Apart from actively being involved in sports of the Old Boys of the College and contributing to the development of sports at Wesley, the OWSC has been successful in organizing the Schools Invitation Six a Side Cricket tournament on an annual basis.

This has been the contribution from OWSC, to the community at large to uplift the spirit of sportsmanship and to provide an opportunity for schoolboy cricketers from all walks of life to display their talent.
