The University of Moratuwa conquered the waters of Beira Lake to win the 33rd edition of the Internet University Rowing Championship.
Crowds flocked the Colombo Rowing Club today to cheer on their team at the regatta, which is held as a part of the Sri Lanka University Games. However, since its inception in 1980, the regatta has only been battled out between the University of Colombo and the University of Moratuwa.
The first half of the regatta witnessed Moratuwa women’s team and Colombo men’s team in the lead. However, the tables were turned and at the conclusion of more than six races, the University of Moratuwa was ahead of University of Colombo in both the Men’s and Women’s categories with a two point lead of 22 from Colombo’s 20 points, to come out victorious.
