Authoritative half-centuries from captain Misbah-ul-Haq and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez ensured Pakistan a six-wicket triumph.
With this they take a key two-one series lead – in Sunday’s fourth ODI against the West Indies at the Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet.
Misbah made 53 off 43 deliveries, while Umar Akmal added a rapid 29 not out to help Pakistan reach their Duckworth-Lewis revised target of 189 off 31 overs with six deliveries remaining, earning them a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Earlier, Marlon Samuels had starred with the bat as he contributed an unbeaten 106 in the West Indies’ 261 for seven off 49 overs.
The West Indies will now hope to salvage a series draw from the final match, which takes place on Wednesday.
Pakistan had reached 68 for two off 17 overs in their pursuit of 262 when rain forced the teams off for over an hour, after which the tourists were set their new testing victory target of 189 from 31 overs.
That meant they needed to score 121 runs off 14 overs but they did so without too much trouble, with Hafeez making 59 before Misbah and Umar saw them over the finishing line with an unbroken 45-run stand in 4.4 overs.
Wicketkeeper Umar helped finish the match with successive boundaries off the first three balls of Dwayne Bravo’s over – the 30th and penultimate of the innings – which ended up going for 15.
The defeat was tough on man of the match Samuels, who clubbed four sixes and nine fours in scoring his fifth one-day international century to help the West Indies reach what appeared to be a healthy total.
