Six matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.
St. Joseph’s College, Colombo vs Ananda College, Colombo
St. Joseph’s College managed a comprehensive innings victory over Ananda College in their Group D fixture which concluded today at St. Joseph’s College Grounds. Josephs resumed day two on 181 runs for 7 wickets as the lower order batsmen added another 88 runs for the remaining 3 wickets. Damindu Rishan was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets for 69 runs while Asel Sigera took 3 vital wickets for the Anandians.
Ananda had to reach a target of 125 runs in the second innings to avoid an innings defeat, yet, they were bundled out for just 123 runs. Left arm spinner Miranga Wickramage had an outstanding outings as he picked up 7 wickets in the first innings took another 5 wickets in the second innings to make his match tally a total 12 wickets for 65 runs.

St. Servatius College recorded a comprehensive 10 wicket victory over Dharmaraja College in their Group C fixture which concluded today at Uyanwaththa Grounds. St. Servatius College resumed day two on 119 runs for 4 wickets but with their middle order collapsing St. Servatius managed only a total of 214 runs. Upendra Warnakulasooriya was the chief annihilator with the ball as he grabbed 6 scalps for 57 runs. Rajans had to play catch-up as they began their second innings trailing by 95 runs.
However, they did not show any improvement with the bat in the second innings as they were dismissed for 98 runs. St. Servatius was left with a simple four run chase to victory. Shashika Dulshan was instrumental in the batting collapse as he picked up 3 wickets for just 17 runs.

St. Benedict’s College defeated Bandaranyake College in their Group A fixture which concluded today at Makandura Public Grounds. After being 95 runs for 7 wickets overnight, St. Benedict’s College managed to add another 52 runs for the remaining 3 wickets. Lads from Gampaha began their second innings with a 27 run lead and posted a total of 175 before been bowled out.
Off spinner Mahesh Theekshana impressed with the ball picking up another 4 wickets adding to his 5 wicket haul in the first innings. The Benedictines had to chase 203 runs to take the game away, which they did with flair in just 28.4 overs scoring more than 7 runs per over. Left handed batsman Shehan Fernando remained unbeaten on 56 runs while Thilan Chathuranga chipped in with match winning 55 runs.

After been asked to bat first, hosts only managed to post a total of 164 runs in their first innings. Thurstan skipper Nipun Lakshan top scored with 87 runs while left arm spinner Hashan Sandeepa and right arm fast bowler Heshan Hettiarachchi picked up 9 wickets among them. In reply, Mahanama College finished day one on 85 runs for 3 wickets.

Antonian skipper Yasindu Jayaweera won the toss and decided to bat first at the St. Anthony’s College Grounds in Kandy. It was a poor display of batting from the home team as they were bowled out for 96 runs. Left arm spinner Pasindu Ushetti and right arm fast medium bowler Aveesha Keshan picked up 4 wickets each for Maristella. Maris Stella College replied strongly with the bat as they finished day one on 269 runs for 5 wickets. Skipper Lasith Croospulle stroked a magnificent century for lads from Negombo.

Right handed batsman Sandun Fernando stroked 94 runs, missing a brilliant century by 6 runs while deputy skipper Avindu Fernando and Sanoj Darshika both scored 65 runs.
