Six matches of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Cricket Tournament 2018/19 were conducted today around the island.

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo vs Gurukula College, Kelaniya

St. Joseph’s College managed to record an innings victory against Gurukula College in their Group A fixture which concluded today at St. Joseph’s College grounds in Colombo. Gurukula College began their first innings today and managed to post only 112 runs all-out, in reply to the Josephian 1st innings score of 292.

Josephian left arm spinner Miranga Wickramage was the chief destroyer with the ball as he grabbed 7 wickets for 48 runs. After been asked to follow on, Gurukula managed to post 158 runs all-out. Miranga Wickramage bowled well again to pick 4 wickets for 78 runs.

Ananda College, Colombo vs Thurstan College, Colombo

Group D fixture between Ananda College and Thurstan College concluded today in a draw at Surrey grounds in Maggona. After being 64 runs for 3 wickets overnight, Thurstan College managed to go pass Ananda College first innings score and posted 195 runs on the scoreboard. Sanuth Nandinu top scored with 73 runs for Thurstan College.

Ananda College began their second innings 5 runs behind and posted 276 runs for 8 wickets. Kamesh Nirmal (96) and Kalana Wijesiri (68) top scored for Ananda College.

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa vs Nalanda College, Colombo

Group B fixture between Nalanda College and Prince of Wales College ended in a draw today at Prince of Wales College grounds in Moratuwa. Nalanda College resumed day two on 87 runs for 3 wickets and posted 179 runs all-out for their first innings. Cambrian left arm spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara continued his good form with the ball picking up 7 wickets for 76 runs.

Cambrians came out to bat in the second innings 29 runs behind and were bundled out for 135 runs. Lakshitha Rasanja bowled extremely well to grab 6 scalps for 32 runs for Nalanda College.

Group C fixture between S. Thomas’ College and St. Servatius College ended in a draw today at Mount Lavinia. S. Thomas’ College resumed day two on 10 runs for 1 wicket and declared their first innings on 99 runs for 6 wickets.  St. Servatius College began their second innings 17 runs behind and posted 106 runs, setting a target of 90 runs to win for S. Thomas’ College. When umpires called stumps on day two, S. Thomas’ College was 76 runs for 9 wickets.

Sri Lanka U19 cap Nishan Madushka scored a brilliant unbeaten century to save his school, Moratuwa Maha Vidyalaya


Rahula College, Matara vs Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda

Dharmasoka College resumed day two on 83 runs for 1 wicket and posted 331 runs all-out for their first innings. Dinitha Dilshan (76) and Hasitha Rajapakshe (58) top scored for Sokians. Ovin Bopage and Sasith Manuranga shone with the ball sharing 7 wickets between them.

Rahula College began their second innings trailing by 128 runs and posted 137 runs for 5 wickets at stumps on day two. Sasith Manuranga stoked a magnificent century for Rahula College.

Traditional fixture between Maris Stella College and Presidents College commenced today at St. Sebastian’s College Ground in Katuneriya. After been put into bat first, Maris Stella College posted 168 runs all-out for their first innings. Tashmika Nirmal picked up 6 scalps for 50 runs for the lads from Kotte.

In reply, Presidents College was struggling at 68 runs for 7 wickets at stumps on day one.
