The Women’s final of the 2016 Squash Nationals will see a repeat of the junior national finals as defending national champion Mihiliya Methsarani will come face to face with #2 seed Fathoum Issadeen.
The 36th National Squash Championship commenced at the Tamil Union squash courts on the 17th of this month with the active participation of over 300 players; the semi-finals were held yesterday.
In the women’s open category it was Mihiliya Methsarani who defeated Wasundara Suwaris 3/0 to get herself to yet another final encounter. The five-time junior national champion and three-time national champion will meet Fathoum Issadeen in the final. Issadeen defeated the 2011 national champion Sharya Guruge 3/0 to get her ticket to the finals and it will be an interesting encounter on the cards this evening.
In the Men’s competition, it is defending champion Ravindu Laksiri and junior national champion Shamil Wakeel in the finals. Ravindu defeated Adnan Abdul Hassen in the semi-finals while Wakeel defeated veteran squash player Gihan Suwaris 3/2 to get through to the finals.
The much anticipated finals are expected to start this evening at the Tamil Union courts.
