Mercantile Cricket – LB Finance strides to quarter-finals

With 4 wins from 5 games, LB Finance have topped group B and qualified for the quarter-finals in the MCA ‘B’ division tournament 2015/16.

On Thursday, LB Finance, Mobitel and John Keells ‘B’ registered important victories in the ‘B’ division competition while MAS Unichela continued their dominance in the ‘A’ division with yet another win.

MAS Unichela vs Sampath Bank

MAS Unichela continued their purple patch when they convincingly beat Sampath Bank by 8 wickets at MCA grounds.

After opting to bat first, Sampath Bank managed only 213. Left-handed Primosh Perera made a superb ton for the bankers. In reply, MAS Unichela chased down the target with ease. Mahela Udawatta stroked a whirlwind 106 off 75 balls with 11 fours and 6 sixes.

LB Finance vs MAS Silueta

Skipper Rajeewa Weerasinghe excelled with all-round performance of 37 & 3 wickets as he led LB Finance to a close 20-run win at NCC grounds.

After being 120 for 6 at one stage, LB managed to put up 211 runs on the board. Former Peterite Lakshan Rodrigo top-scored with 41 while Romesh Silva and Angelo Emmanuel took 2 wickets apiece.

Chasing 212 runs to win, MAS Silueta crumbled against the off-spin of former Josephians, Yashan Samarasinghe and Rajeewa Weerasinghe as they shared 7 wickets between them.

Mobitel vs Singer

Koshan Jayawickrama’s brilliant ton ensured Mobitel beat Singer by 111 runs at Navy grounds in Welisara.

Right-handed Koshan managed to anchor Mobitel batting with his valiant knock of 103 and he starred with the ball as well picking up 3 wickets.

Mobitel – 312/6 in 50 overs: Koshan Jayawickrama 103, Geshan Wimaladarma 55, Sajeewa Salgado 50, Eranga Rathnayake 73, Chamika Wijerathne 3/26.

John Keells ‘B’ vs Hayleys

Janudika Sriyapala’s resilient 38 helped John Keells ‘B’ achieve victory over Hayleys by 6 wickets at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.

The star-studded Hayleys batting unit was shut down for 152 thanks to Hashan Wickramasuriya and Nisham Mazahir. Former Anthonian, Hiran Wickramasekara top-scored for the winners with 47 in their chase.
