Three matches in the Singer Schools’ U19 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 concluded today around the Island.
Richmond College vs Dharmapala College
The Palians resumed on 144/8 and went on to post 180 early on the second day. In reply, in-form left-hander Kamindu Mendis smashed an unbeaten 129 off 111 deliveries as the Richmondites pile up 306/2 in 39.3 overs.
Coming in to the 2nd essay, the Pannipitiya lads had a daunting task to bat the whole day and play for their survival. Richmond off -spinner Sandun Mendis followed up his 5-for in the 1st innings as he claimed another 4-wicket haul to demolish the opponents as Richmond College cruised to victory in style in the group ‘C’ encounter which ended at the Galle International Stadium.

St. Peter’s College vs St. Aloysius’ College
Both teams having poor batting efforts in the 1st innings, came out with a different approach in the second innings to drag the game to a draw in the traditional encounter.
Peterite skipper Santhush Gunathilaka picked up 5 scalps in the 1st innings and stroked 42 in the second innings along with Shalith Fernando (72) who anchored the visitors to 163/7 declared in 75 overs. However, the hosts batted the remaining overs as they took away honours against the strong Peterite outfit at Hambantota.

Zahira College vs Lumbini College
After 22 wickets fell on the opening day at Colts grounds, Lumbini College came out victorious in the group ‘D’ encounter which concluded today.
Zahira resuming day two on 21 for 2, continued to struggle as they folded for a hapless 128 in 44.2 overs. Left-arm spinner Vimukthi Kulatunga was the chief destroyer as he claimed 6 wickets in his 16.2 overs in the 2nd innings to complete a match bag of 9/56 to rattle the lads from Maradana.
Needing 68 to win, Lumbini College had no trouble as right-hander Raveesha Sathsara guided them with a handy contribution in the fourth innings to defeat Zahira College by 7 wickets.
