FAL MCA ‘B’ Division’ Cricket to begin later this month

The 2nd Fair & Lovely Men – ‘MCA ‘B’ Division’ 50 over league tournament will be played from the 26th of September 2018 onwards.

Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) has once again tied up with Unilever Fair & Lovely Men as their title sponsor for this year’s ‘B Division’ cricket league, where eight teams will battle it out for the ‘Fair & Lovely Men Challenge Trophy’.

The teams participating this year will be; John Keels Holdings, Unilever Sri Lanka, CDB, HNB, Kanrich Finance, Expo Lanka, Singer Sri Lanka and Commercial Credit. Each team will play against the others in the 28-match preliminary round, and then the top four teams will move in to the playoffs. The first and the second place teams will play a qualifier, and the third and the fourth will play an eliminator.

The winner of the qualifier will go straight to the final. While the loser will play another qualifier with the winner of the eliminator; and the winner of that game will move to the final. The final will be played on the 3rd of November at the MCA grounds.

This tournament attracts a lot of potential, and is a great platform to witness the rise of the next generation of players who will keep this proud game alive”; Roshan Iddamalgoda, President of the MCA stated.

Apart from the title sponsorship, Unilever Sri Lanka has come up with an even bigger offer for the budding cricketers this year. Announcing the ‘FAL Men – Cricket Academy’, for the betterment of the young cricketers, an initiative taken together with ThePapare.com to identify young talent from all around the country. 

“Cricket in Sri Lanka has changed lives, empowered a Nation and continues to be the most cherished sport. Despite the success and the talent this country boasts in the sport, our young cricketers have found it hard to find their place amongst the best in the international arena. This has been due to the gaps in the transition from domestic to international cricket. Therefore, the ‘FAL Men – Cricket Academy’ will be launched with the right infrastructure to develop a new breed of cricketers, who will evolve into a great sportsmen and raise the bar for Sri Lankan cricket,”Daminda Perera, Senior Brand Manager Unilever Face Care, said.

The Academy will support the youngsters in developing their talent, and also provide educational support for a selected group. It is expected to hold four major coaching camps in Colombo, Kandy, Galle and Jaffna. Further, the Academy will also host a Cricket Master class which will focus on different areas of cricket; personality and leadership to mould players into better cricketers and citizens.
