Mazenodians dominate Devans; Yeshan stars for Thurstan

Two matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division I two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 conducted today around the island.

Maliyadeva College vs De Mazenod College

The lads from Kandana won the toss and opted to bat first in the group ‘D’ encounter which commenced today at De Mazenod grounds. Romal Fernando was impressive with the ball for the Mazenodians as the lads from Kurunagala were bundled out for a hapless 102 inside 36 overs.

In reply, the hosts take the advantage by registering a first innings win in the opening day and having 81-run lead going in to the second day when the umpires stopped play due to bad-light.

Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Richmond College vs Thurstan College

The Richmondites decided to declare their innings in the second day morning in hope of a 1st innings result in the traditional encounter which concluded at Galle International Stadium. The visitors started off superbly with Yeshan Wickramarachchie making a 72 ball 66 to give the momentum for the lads from Thurstan. However, the match ended in a no result due to poor weather in Galle and the umpires decided to call it a day.
