Akalanka finished 6th in the Men’s 50m Backstroke semi-final while Matthew finished 4th in the Men’s 100m Freestyle semi-final.
Akalanka, one of the youngest in the group, finished his semi-final with a timing of 26.52secs, which was a shade better than his season best. He will be one of the two reserved for the final tomorrow.
Matthew clocked in at 49.43secs and like Akalanka will be one of the reserves for the Men’s 100m Freestyle final. He swam a 49.11secs renewing his own Sri Lanka record in the heats and a similar time in the semi-finals would have earned him a spot in the final.

Of the six, only Akalanka Peiris and Matthew Abeysinghe impressed in their heats to qualify for the Men’s 50m Backstroke and Men’s 100m Freestyle semi-finals respectively.
Cherantha De Silva finished last in the Men’s 200m Butterly (Heat 2) with a timing of 2:08.71mins which was over 7 seconds slower than his Season Best, 2:01.29mins.
Akalanka Peiris was hopeful of a top three place, when he swam in the Men’s 50m Backstroke (Heat 2) but only managed to finish in 4th place behind Zac Incerti (AUS), Harry Shalamon (JEY) and Craig McNally (SCO). His timing 26.83secs was just 0.29secs off his Season Best (26.54secs).

Dilrukshi Perera bettered her Season Best of 30.31secs with a 29.81secs timing but it could only give her a 7th place finish in Heat 3 of the Women’s 50m Butterfly. Australia’s Madeline Groves finished first with a timing of 25.81secs.
Kyle Abeysinghe, Matthew Abeysinghe and Cherantha De Silva swam in the Men’s 100m Freestyle event.
Kyle Abeysinghe swam in Heat 5 and finished last with a timing of 52.20secs which was 1.27secs slower than his Season Best of 50.93secs.
Matthew Abeysinghe (SB 48.99secs) qualified for the semi-finals after finishing 2nd in Heat 7 with a timing of 49.11secs just behind Yurl Kisil of Canada (49.06secs). At the 50m split Matthew was 4th but managed power his way to a semi-final place. His timing was the 6th fastest in the 8 heats that took place in the Men’s 100m Freestyle.
Cherantha De Silva was once way off his Season Best (50.19secs) as he finished last in heat 8 with a timing of 52.08secs.
