Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have started investigations on match-fixing allegations in their Premier ‘B’ tournament game between Kalutara Physical Culture Club and Panadura Sports Cub, after 24 wickets fell for 603 runs in just 59 overs on a rain-hit final day.
In contrast, the first and the second days witnessed tallies of 362 for 8 (3.85 runs per over) and 207 for 4 (3.83 runs per over) respectively.
The ball was set rolling after, Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club (SLPA) protested to SLC, claiming that they have photographic proof of the uncharacteristic field settings in the match between the two clubs, played from January 23rd-25th at Surrey Village Grounds in Maggona.
While Kalutara collapsed from 171 for 5 to 197 all out, Panadura went on to chase the target of 165 in only 13.4 overs, scoring at a run-rate of 12.21.
If the charges are proved, the clubs are set to face severe consequences, especially given the fact that the lackluster ‘Tier B’ tournament enjoys first-class status from the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Sri Lanka Cricket Vice President K. Mathivanan said that the board has procured the umpires and match referee’s report on Saturday (January 28) and a tournament committee will be set up to investigate the matter in entirety.
Commenting on the process, Chairman of the Tournament Committee Bandula Dissanayake said that the SLC will act forthright on the matter and will take appropriate action consistent with the regulations of SLC
The management of the SLC has strongly stated that it will not disregard any illegal acts that destroys the spirit of the game or brings disrepute to the sport and the board.
