The “Mastercard” A Division League Rugby Tournament 2024/2025 season is set to commence on the 13th of December following lengthy interruptions due to Sri Lanka Rugby’s (SLR) woes.

Nine teams are set to battle it out this time around, with Sri Lions being the new outfit on the block, vying to bring their international experience and glory to replicate in the Mastercard A Division League Rugby.

Sri Lanka Rugby is excited to announce that Mastercard will be the Principal Sponsor of the Inter-Club A Division League Tournament for the 2024/2025 season. This year’s tournament will feature a new addition to the league, with Sri Lions Sports Club joining as the ninth team in the competition.

Adding to the excitement, fans can look forward to thrilling late-evening matches under floodlights at Longdon Place (CR & FC) and Havelock Park (Havelocks Sports Club). This will bring back the nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the vibrant rugby culture of the late ’80s and ’90s, rekindling great spectator interest in Sri Lanka’s domestic rugby scene.

The nine teams will all be vying for glory as the league kicks off on Friday, the 13th, at Ratmalana, where Air Force will host CH & FC in the opening encounter. Saturday will feature two games, while fan favourites Kandy will play on Sunday at their fortress, Nittawela.

Two weeks of action will take place prior to the Christmas break, with matches resuming on the 27th. The first round will continue until mid-February.

The second round will be played in the Plate and Cup segments over the span of eight weeks to decide the ultimate champion.

The Knockout Championship will commence immediately after the league ends, with the club season expected to conclude in April 2025.

A Women’s League and Knockout Tournament will be held alongside the Men’s tournament, and for the first time, nine teams will participate in the women’s competition.

The stage is set for an unforgettable season of rugby, and all the action will be brought to you LIVE and EXCLUSIVELY on ThePapare, Sri Lanka’s No. 1 Sports Channel.
