Massive Equipment Injection; Set to Make Table Tennis Sri Lanka’s Top Sport‏

Endeavouring to make table tennis the most popular sport in the country, the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka, in conjunction with State Trading (General) Corporation Ltd, is to distribute no less than 1,500 table tennis tables nationwide!

In co-operation with the secretaries from the various regions within Sri Lanka, table tennis tables will be allocated to selected schools.

The official launch of the project will be held on Thursday 14th March 2013 at 2.00pm local time, at the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation offices in Colombo; the Honourable Mahindananda Aluthgamage, the Minister of Sport will attend the occasion.

President to Attend

Also present will be the Honourable Lasantha Alagiyawanna, the Deputy Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing Construction and Common Amenities. 

He is the President of the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka and will arrange to distribute, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, the table tennis tables to schools throughout the island.

Funding

Funds for 1,000 table tennis tables has been approved by the Ministry of Education; the remaining 500 table tennis tables have been funded by Ministers and Members of the Parliament Members using decentralized Provincial Councils budgets.

The most popular sport in the country; surely a step to making table tennis the popular sport in the country!
