Rains have come back to haunt the cricketing arena as the Semi finals of the Singer-MCA Premier T20 League was washed off on Thursday. However, MAS Unichela and John Keells Holdings sealed their spot in the finals which will be played on 3rd November at MCA grounds.
MAS Unichela was up against Sampath Bank in the semi finals which was supposed to be played at NCC Grounds. The match was called off without a ball being bowled and the decision was taken from a bowl out. MAS Unichela won the bowl out by 3 to 1 and qualified to the finals.
The John Keells Holdings and Teejay Lanka match was scheduled to be played at MCA Grounds. This match was also washed out and the decision was made through a bowl out. The winners won the bowl out by 3-2 and sealed their spot in the final.
John Keells earlier defeated Commercial Credit in the quarter finals. Their experienced batting line and the depth of their bowling have put them in contention of winning the title this year. The likes of young Jehan Daniel, Bhanuka Rajapaksha and all-rounder Ishan Jayarathne have given a good balance to the side in both departments. Their depth in the squad also give them a lot of options as they prepare to fight for the title.
MAS Unichela on the other end found their spot in the semi finals beating LB Finance in the round of eight. The experience of handling pressure in tight situations would give them an added advantage going in to the finals. The experience of TM Dilshan, Chamara Silva, Farveez Maharoof will be vital along with the new guns of Kamindu Mendis and Nipun Ransika as they face up against a well balanced JKH side.
