Weather gods haven’t been kind to this years Mercantile season so far but we still have been able to get some matches away around the country. Here is a round up of the matches which took place in the Fair and Lovely MEN Division B Mercantile Cricket tournament.
MAS Silueta vs Commercial Bank
MAS reached a comfortable 6 wicket victory over Commercial at Surrey Grounds Maggona. Due to bad weather the match was rescheduled to 21 overs. MAS won the toss and elected to field first. They managed to be on top right through the Commercial bank innings thanks to some good tight bowling from Nimanda Madushanka and Kaushalya Gajasinghe. Both shared two wickets each as they restricted Commercial for just 106 runs. Akeel Inham top scored with 35 for the bankers.
In reply MAS had a revised target of 107 runs due to a delayed start to their run chase. They got over the line with utmost ease with 6 wickets in hand. Kaushalya Gajasinghe top scored with an unbeaten 30.

DHT Cement vs Unilever
DHT Cement held their nerve till the end to clinch a 3 wicket victory over Unilever at BRC grounds. Unilever won the toss and elected to bat first. They couldn’t take the advantage of winning the toss as wickets tumbled in quick succession. DHT Cement bowlers were ruthless from the word go and they bundled out Unilever for just 98 runs. Kavindu Bandara and Thilin Nimesh were the pick of the bowlers for DHT.
In reply, DHT made the run chase exciting by giving away wickets early on. Unilever fought bravely but thanks to a composed knock of 40 runs by Dineth Thimodya, DHT got over the line with 3 wickets in hand.
