Third Mercantile Volleyball tournament 2014 was worked off on the 16th and 17th of August at the Maharagama Youth Center with as many as 92 teams from the mercantile sector participating.
The tournament was broken into three categories. A division(men`s) , championship(men`s & women`s) and super league men`s & women`s. There were many national players who took part for their respective teams in the tournament with MAS and Brandix being the top contenders.
The most significant moment was the participation of two new teams from Kilinochchi. Vanavil which was a part of the MAS group which fielded a men`s and women`s team respectively. Special guest on the opening ceremony was Mr.Rehan Pathirage, Vice President of the Volleyball Federation and Air Vice Marshal of the Sri Lanka Air Force and chief guest of the event , Ranjith Rupasinghe, CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom & Human Capital.

Speaking to ThePapare.com Saman Weerasuriya, Tournament Committee Chairmen & Vice President Mercantile Volleyball Federation said, “That the Mercantile Volleyball Federation is creating job opportunities through the mercantile sector for the players and coaches. And the tournament as a whole was a success and will be having the finals on the 26th of October at indoor stadium of the Maharagama Youth Center. CSN Network will be telecasting the finals live and it will be free of charge for the spectators to view at the premises”.
