Maris Stella & Ratnayake MV clinch top honors at Senior Tarbet

86th Sir John Tarbet Senior athletic meet concluded today at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse stadium with Maris Stella College, Negombo walking away as the overall Boys Champion while A. Ratnayake MV emerged as the overall Girls Champions.  

Four new meet records were established in the third and the final day of the meet. M.K Parasdhi Lakshani of Holy Cross College Gampaha leaped to a new meet record in the U16 Girls triple jump. Adeesha Anjana of Lumbini College clocked in 50.00 secs in the U16 400 meters while Ridma Nishadhi of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda got on to the record books with an jump of 6.02m in the U16 Girls Long jump event. The day’s limelight was stolen by the impressive pole-vaulter from Mahajana College. Thelippalai J.Anitha who dazzled all gathered with a new Sri Lanka record height of 3.35 M in her event, this was also the only Sri Lanka record established at this year’s competition.

Ridhma Nishadi from Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda was adjudged the best athlete of the year 2016 (Girls) for her record setting Long  jump while Ushan Thiwanka from Maris Stella, Negombo was adjudged the best athlete of the year 2016 (Boys)  for his record setting high jump.

This year over 3200 athletes participated in the games and it also worked as a trial for the Junior South Asian Games to be worked out in India next month.
