Domestic Cricket Season to set off in grand style

Sri Lanka’s most competitive cricket season is back.

Premier League cricket season conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will start off for another year including island’s top class professional cricketers with the beginning of the Premier Limited Over Tournament 2013/14 on December 1st at various venues around colombo. 

Inter-Club Premier League Limited Over tournament will have Sri Lanka’s best 14 cricket clubs going head to head in 11 active days with 45 matches scheduled to play. 11 selected matches including the semi-finals and finals will be telecast live. The tournament’s grand final will be played on the 28th at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

14 teams will be divided into two main groups and the top two teams will qualify to play the semi finals. All the matches will be played in coloured clothing under all the ICC rules and regulations on 50 over cricket.

Last year the tournament had 20 teams separated into 2 groups and the ultimate winners were Ragama CC who beat SSC by 4 wickets in a thrilling game. During this upcoming tournament, Cricket fans will be guaranteed of witnessing spectacular club cricket as all the national cricket super stars will be in action for the respective clubs for the first four match days before they depart to UAE for the Pakistan Series. The fifteen members selected for the desert tour will have valuable match practice with this tournament.

All the 14 clubs have exciting young talent and there will be no doubt that this tournament will be a success for Sri Lanka’s future in their most popular sport. Authorities are looking to give the players an opportunity to showcase their talents and skills by arranging to show matches live and this will allow fans too see for themselves the next brigade of talent to take on the mandate of Sri Lanka Cricket. It also will give maximum exposure to the on field umpires and for the first time the 3rd umpire facilities will also be used during the live telecast. This will be a great opportunity for the on field and the 3rd umpires to be tested on their performance.
