St. Peter’s College 1st XI representatives, Manelkar De Silva and Vinu Mohotty excelled for Saracens Sports Club as they defeated Burgher Recreation Club by 80 runs in their SLC Under 23 Division 1 Cricket Tournament match played at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona today.
After winning the toss and opting to field first, BRC conceded 255 runs to the hosts, Saracens. Last year’s skipper Duleeka Thissakuttige held the innings together scoring 50 off 98 runs while wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Nilaksha and right-handed Chemila Obeysekara made 36 and 31 respectively.
18-year old De Silva gave the much-needed impetus to the Saracens innings as he clobbered 55 from just 31 deliveries with 3 sixes and 3 fours. Off-spinner Savin Gunasekara was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors claiming 3 scalps for just 53 runs off 9 overs.
