Four games in the SLC Major Club T20 Tournament 2024 were played today (13th May) at Army Ground, Panagoda and NCC Grounds in Colombo. Fortunately, all the games saw results even though three games from yesterday were washed out due to rain.
The first game in the group ‘B’ was played between Moors SC and Badureliya SC at Panagoda. Moors putting Badureliya SC to bat first restricted them to just 91 runs in their allocated 20 overs. Sri Lanka national cap Praveen Jayawickrama and rookie Malsha Tharupathi starred with the ball for Moors SC. Even after restricting Badureliya to under 100 runs, Moors SC lost 8 wickets to reach their target.

The game played simultaneously at NCC Grounds saw Negombo CC beat Ace Capital comprehensively by 17 runs in their group ’C’ fixture.

Batting first, Negombo CC made a competitive 152 thanks to Madawa Warnapura’s unbeaten 52 runs. Himasha Liyange also scored 45 runs to take Negombo CC to a commanding total.
Dilshan Munaweera led the Negombo bowling unit by picking up 3 wickets for 20 runs in his 4 overs, Pasindu Ushettige also chipped in with 3 wickets to restrict the AceCapital batters. Raveen De Silva showed some spirit towards the end of the innings by scoring an unbeaten 38 runs.

Chilaw Marians CC took on BRC in the second group ‘B’ for the day at Panagoda this afternoon. Batting first, The Chilaw Marians scored 129 runs with Ayon Fernando top-scoring with an unbeaten 53.
In reply, BRC reached their target in 18.1 overs, beating Chilaw Marians CC comprehensively by 6 wickets. Risira Wjiesuriya top-scored for BRC with an unbeaten 48 runs.

The fourth and final game for the day was played between Singhalese Sports Club and Tamil Union C & AC at NCC Grounds. SSC collected two points by beating Tamil Union rather comfortably.

The Tamil Union batters were bowled out for just 97 runs thanks to Lakshitha Manasinghe’s brilliant spell of 3 for 24.
Although SSC lost 5 wickets, in their reply, wicket-keeper batter Krishan Sanjula ensured that his team went over the line in the 14th over. Sanjula scored an impressive 31 ball 43 runs with three fours and three maximums included.
