Dinuka Dilshan’s 2nd innings ton put Moors on top

Major Club Emerging 3-Day Tournament 2022

346

Eight 6th week matches of the SLC Major Club Emerging 3-Day Tournament 2022 resumed today (26th March) for the 2nd day, in several venues across the island.

With Group A still being wide open, this week’s main focus still remains on the 3 Group A matches. At Moors, table-toppers Moors SC found themselves in a commanding position against SSC as the visitors were reeling on 30/6 at the end of day 2. SSC were put into chase a daunting 376 after the Moors made 258/4 in just 48 overs for the 2nd innings.

Moors Skipper Dinuka Dilshan scored his 2nd l consecutive 2nd innings ton after falling for 99 in the 1st innings. Interestingly it was his younger brother Kavindu Nadeeshan, also his opposition counterpart, who denied him the ton by dismissing him. The continuation of the brothers’ bittersweet tussle on day 2 saw the elder brother taking sweet revenge over his younger brother on his way to a well-made century.

Sebastianites C & AC, sitting 2nd in the table having played 1 match less than Moors, also found themselves in a comfortable position against Lankan CC at the end of day 2 in Moratuwa. Following the ambidextrous Tharindu Ratnayake’s 5-wicket haul which gave the hosts a 49-run 1st innings lead, Vishal Silva went on to score his 2nd half-century of the game as th the Sebastianites ended the day with a big lead of 294.

The third team in the table Air Force SC too made a good comeback against Navy SC after conceding a 36-run first-innings lead, as Navy were 113 for 9 with just a lead of 149. Following left-arm spinner Sudara Dakshina’s 7-wicket haul which gave the upper hand to the Navy, the Air Force spinners, led by Movin Subasingha, did an excellent job to pull back things and bring the game back to a balanced position.

In Group D, Army SC’s brilliant 2nd innings bowling effort has put them in a position where just 2 good sessions of batting can see them toppling the table-toppers Colts CC – Army need 195 runs with 9 wickets in hand. Even though the Colts will still have a game to redeem themselves after a loss, Army will be looking to give their best shot tomorrow to keep their hopes alive. After falling short of the Colts’ 1st innings total by 110 runs, the Army spinners did brilliantly well to bundle out the strong Colts batting unit for just 104 runs. Off-spinner, former Peterite Shehada Zoysa, led the charge claiming 7 wickets, while Kaumal Nanayakkara completed his match-bag of 10 wickets with 3 wickets to go, with his 7 in the 1st innings. Nanayakkara claimed 10 wickets in the previous game too.

Having already secured a spot in the semifinals, Tamil Union C & AC amassed a mammoth 527/9 against Nugegoda S & WC as their Skipper Ranmith Jayasena scored 129. In the game between Galle CC and Ace Capital CC, left-arm spinner Sandun Madushanka’s 2nd innings 6-wicket haul put Galle on top despite Lasith Croospulle’s twin half-centuries for Ace Capital. Galle were on 76 for no loss at close of play chasing 146.

The 3rd and final day of the ongoing 8 matches will commence tomorrow.
