The first ever Battle of the Blues and Maroons big match between Mahinda Rajapaksha College, Homagama and Defence Services School was held at SSC grounds on Wednesday (4th April) with the former winning the match by 141 runs.
Coming into this battle, Defence Services School had a mix-bag of a season winning only one game on outright, losing one while two of their games ended without a decision, while Mahinda Rajapaksha College registered one outright win, lost two and rest of the games ended without a decision.
Earlier, Mahinda Rajapaksha College Captain Movin Dileepa won the toss and elected to bat first on a batting-friendly SSC surface. They got off to a very good start which saw Dulaj Perera scoring a brilliant century and Sandeep Vihara scored an unbeaten 76 runs. Omavin Indeepa chipped in with 28 runs as they reached a huge total of 252 for 2 in their allotted 45 overs.
In reply, Defence Services School did not get any momentum going from the start which saw their wickets falling at regular intervals. Kaushalya Vithanage and Ashen Gurusinghe scored 40 and 26 respectively but they managed to score only 111 for 9. Omavin Indeepa took 3 wickets by just giving only 8 runs in his bowling spell while Lalana Lakshitha took 2 wickets for 29 runs.
