Silva, Eranga, Lakmal achieve career-best positions
Mahela Jayawardena has jumped five places to 13th in the latest Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen following his unbeaten knock of 203, against Bangladesh in the first Test at Mirpur.
Jayawardena’s seventh career double hundred helped Sri Lanka register an innings and 248 runs win, to thereby take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series on Thursday.
Jayawardena, named player of the match, is now on 714 ratings points, just two behind Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews, who is in 12th place with 716 ratings points.
Of the other centurions in the Mirpur Test, Kaushal Silva has jumped 12 places to a career-best 48th following his knock of 139, while Kithuruwan Vithanage’s maiden Test hundred (103 not out) has seen him rocket 52 places into the top 100, to 98th position.
The other batsmen to move up the rankings include Mushfiqur Rahim in 37th (up by two) and Dinesh Chandimal in 44th (up by one).
There was no movement inside the top ten of the batting table, which is still topped by AB de Villiers, with West Indies’ Shivnarine Chanderpaul in second and Ross Taylor in third place.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s pacemen Shaminda Eranga and Suranga Lakmal have claimed career-best positions on the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers.
Eranga, who jumped eight places to 33rd, had claimed figures of four for 49 in the first innings. Lakmal ended with a match haul of six for 105, and has moved up 11 places to 52nd.
Dilruwan Perera’s match-winning spell of five for 109 in the second innings has helped him rise 36 places to 92nd, moving into the top 100 for the first time in his career.
Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath is now down a place to fifth, just five ratings points behind fourth-ranked Saeed Ajmal on 787.
The bowlers’ table is headed by South Africa’s Vernon Philander, with teammate Dale Steyn in second position and Ryan Harris in third place.
