Antonians thrash Lumbini

Schools Rugby League 2018

1401

The Antonians secured a dominant victory over Lumbini College at the Race Course grounds this evening. The Eagles managed to score a grand total of 61 points conceding only 5 points.

It was a cloudy evening in Colombo as the Antonian Full-back, Chamodh Wanasinghe, kick-started the game. Both teams seemed to be unsettled right from the beginning. Somehow the Lumbini lock Randula managed to boot the ball down the pitch and make it count for his team. The conversion was not successful. (Lumbini 05-St Anthony’s 00)

The Antonians put everything into their attack after they conceded a try right in the beginning of the game.  Lumbini was also able to keep the Antonians away from the danger zone for a while, but that didn’t last too long as the Eagles managed to find a way to break the deadlock. The Antonian winger, Niranga Ranaweera managed to score the first try in the 17th minute of the game. Full-back Chamodh was able to get the 2 points as well. (Lumbini 05- St Anthony’s 07)

Along with their first try, the Antonians found themselves settled into the game. They weren’t likely to concede anymore. As a matter of fact the Antonian centre, Ishara Liyanage managed to score twice before the first-half came to an end. Only one of those tries were converted successfully. (Lumbini 05- St Anthony’s 19)

Half Time – St. Anthony’s 19 –  Lumbini 05

The second half was a much closer affair as the visitors managed to score right in the beginning of the match. This time it was the Antonian skipper who went under the post. The extra two points was also gained. (Lumbini 05- St Anthonys 26)

The Eagles didn’t waste too much time, scoring yet again through the No 8, Savesh Weerakoon who contributed to his team with 5 points while the extras were added by Chamodh. (Lumbini 05- St Anthony’s 33)

As the Eagles were dominating the game, former vice-captain of the junior Tuskers, Mohomed Shabeer also joined the party by scoring a good try. Chamodh made no mistakes with the conversion either. (Lumbini 05- St Anthony’s 40)

Having scored two tries in the first-half, Ishara Liyanage managed to come up with a hat-trick by scoring one more try in the second half, where he slipped through the defense easily and  Mohomed Shabeer was also able to score twice before play came to an end, making a hat-trick as well.
