Kavindu Ediriweera’s 68 with the bat helped Mahinda College, Galle reach 173 in their Singer-Cup group B tournament game against Lumbini College which was played today at Colts grounds.
The visiting skipper, Hansika Welihinda won the toss and opted to bat first on a dry spinning surface at Colts grounds, Mahinda batsmen were never in control and they were all out for a below par 173 in 87.1 overs. Right-arm off spinner Ruwin Pieris was the pick of the bowlers capturing 3 wickets for only 15 runs and left-arm leggie Vimukthi Kulatunga claimed 3 for 57 for the boys from Havelock town.
Kavindu Ediriweera battled hard for his 68 while his team-mate KK Kevin contributed 27 important runs for Mahinda College to post a reasonable 173. In reply, Lumbini College lost a wicket with just 17 runs on the board, chasing 174 at close of play on day one.
Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
