LSR Colombo Marathan this October

LSR Colombo Marathan will come alive once more empowered by Lanka Sportreizen for the 15th consecutive occasion on the 4th of October 2015 starting within close proximity to the Ministry of Sports.

In its span of 15 years, the LSR Colombo Marathan has been a premiere events with an active participation of runners from around the country. The last year’s marathon was a significant run as Sri Lanka’s Olympic representation for 2016 Rio Geetahni Rajasekara established a new Sri Lankan record.

Much is being talked about in the Sporting fields with the forthcoming Olympic Games to be held in 2016 which will witness Geetahni Rajasekera, who established a new Sri Lanka Record last year in the 14th LSR Colombo Marathon representing Sri Lanka.

Adding to its importance, AIMS (Association for Marathons & Distance Races) the governing body for long distance running has granted Voting Rights to this race making it one of the 54 races that has been given that recognition out of 110 Races around the world.

The Ministry of Sports, Athletic Association of Sri Lanka, Western Province Tourist Board, Western Provincial Council  with the relevant Pradeshiya Sabhas and the Negombo Municipal Council, the Sri Lanka Police  and the Tri Forces , Ministry of Education together with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and the Sri Lankan Airlines have joined hands with Lanka Sportreizen to organize this event.

The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka will be providing the technical assistance through its officials and the Sri Lanka Police will control traffic along the route through Borella , Dematagoda , Peliyagoda , Wattala along the Hamilton Canal , Pamunugama , Thalahena , Pitipana, Duwa to the Beach Park in Negombo with a strong Force of more than 100 officers . The army officials will assist  along the route directing the runners on the correct path.

The Organisers hope that the final numbers after registration will be around 7,500 runners that will include approximately 175 foreigners from 30 countries covering all continents. Among them will be last years winners who will be running to defend their title.

Thilak Weerasinghe , Chairman of Lanka Sportreizen expressed these words on the upcoming LSR marathon,
