Bowlers enjoyed a field on as they captured 19 wickets for 268 runs on day one of the U-19 School cricket fixture between S. Thomas’s College and St. Peter’s College at Mount Lavinia today.
Batting first in friendly conditions, the Thomians failed to capitalize on the home advantage as they were bowled out for 130 runs, a below par score given the strength of the team and home support. Tharindu Ratnayake was the top scorer for Thomians stroking a painstaking 36 while Taneesha Weerakoon stars for Peterites claiming 4 for 41. Sahan Nanayakkara also took three for nine runs while Chimila Obeysekara claimed 2 for 30 to rattle the Thomians.
St. Peter’s though has taken a slight first innings lead had to work for their runs as they scored 138 for nine in 48 overs at stumps. Dineth Thimodya scored a fighting half century with off 61 balls with seven boundaries. Tharindu Ratnayake was main tormentor claiming four scalps for 26 runs while Sachitha Jayathilake had three wickets for seven runs.
