Mobitel Eagles and EZY Wolves and finished day one of the Sri Lanka Super 7’s on top of group A & B respectively.
The all-exciting franchise tournament kicked off at the Racecourse grounds with the SLT Mobitel Eagles taking on the Access Kings in the first encounter. The SLT Mobitel eagles ended up winning the first game 32 -12 and with two wins and a loss, they were able to top Group A of the Franchise segment due to the difference of points. The SLT Mobitel eagles led by Mithun Hapugoda went on to win the match against the Softlogic Warriors and were unfortunate to lose the encounter against KBSL Dragons by two points.
The win against SLT Mobitel Eagles for the KBSL Dragons allowed each of them to finish with two wins along with the Softlogic Warriors led by Jason Dissanayake. Due to the point’s difference between the two teams, the SLT Mobitel Eagles topped the group and Softlogic finished second while KBSL claimed the third spot.
Despite the hype, Matt Turner represented Danush Dayan’s Access Kings didn’t have the privilege of winning a single encounter today at Racecourse but hope will still be with the Kings as they have one more chance at redemption in the quarterfinals.
Unexpectedly, EZY Wolves came out on top to be the frontrunners in Group B. Winning all three games; the Wolves will face the Access Kings in the quarterfinals.

The Cargills Gladiators led by Richard Dharmapala went on to register the highest ever total for the day, which was 40 points against the Etisalat Panthers who in reply scored 7 points. The Gladiators won the final game against the Vipers and will take the second spot in Group B.
Etisalat Panthers with their single win against Walkers CML Vipers are placed in third in the group and the winless Walkers CML Vipers has the fourth place in the group B.
With the best of the eight franchise teams yet to come, the cup quarterfinals will kick off at 2.20 p.m. at the Racecourse grounds.

Isipathana and St. Peter’s top the School Groups
The league winners Isipathana College and St. Peter’s College topped their respective groups in the Under 18 School Sevens contest of the Sri Lanka Super 7s competition and will have edge when they come out to play in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
Starting of the Sri Lanka Super 7s, Isipathana team was put under pressure facing Wesley College. The Wesleyites scored two back to back tries but striking back it Isipathana scored two converted tries to win. Isipathana went on to win the crucial encounter against S. Thomas’ and later massacred D. S. Senanayake College to remain unbeaten.

Wesley College who started off in a high note went on to maintain their form and bulldozed D. S. Senanayake College 34-14 and won in the final minute against S. Thomas’. S. Thomas’ had a bad day at office today winning only the D. S. Senanayake encounter 33-00.
St. Peter’s finished on top in the second group winning the three games. Scoring 28-00 against Prince of Wales, the Peterites eased past Zahira College with scores reading 31-15. St. Peter’s passed the final hurdle that was traditional rivals St. Peter’s 26-5 claiming the top most position.
St. Joseph’s finish second losing only one encounter and in third was Prince of Wales who had their only win against Zahira College. Zahira College will go winless at the end of the day.
Nevertheless all eight teams will play tomorrow’s quarterfinals starting at 12.50 p.m.
