Anura Tennekoon was a regular member of Sri Lanka’s National Cricket team in the pre-Test era and was considered one of the nation’s best batsmen. The right-handed batsman captained the national team at the 1975 and 1979 Cricket World Cups before retiring at the age of 33 after playing 4 ODIs, just 3 years before Sri Lanka gained Test status.
Tennekoon went on to become one of the nation’s pioneering administrators, bearing various titles at Sri Lanka Cricket, including that of CEO from 2000-2003.
