LB and DIMO with big wins; HNB clinch a nail biter

Here’s a roundup of the matches which took place in the 25th MCA Mercantile Premier League yesterday.

MAS Holdings Unichela vs John Keels Holdings

MAS clinched a 43-run victory over John Keels according to the Duckworth and Lewis method at the P Sara Oval, after winning the toss and batting first. The match was reduced to 47 overs a side due to the late start. Half centuries from Ramith Rambukwella, Mahela Udawatte and a few good cameos from Thilaksha Sumanasiri and Chathuranga De Silva helped MAS post 283 runs in their allocated overs. Akshu Fernando, Maduka Liyanapathiranage and Chamikara Edirisinghe shared 2 wickets each for John Keels.

The target was revised for JK as rain intervened during the afternoon. They were given a target of 263 runs to get in 43 overs but fell 24 runs short. Shanuka Dulaj made a valiant effort to take his team home but his unbeaten 92 proved in vain. For MAS, Ishara Amarasinghe bagged a 5-for for MAS.

LB Finance vs Kanrich Finance

LB cruised to a comfortable 6 wicket victory over Kanrich Finance at the Colts grounds, after electing to bowl first. Angelo Perera’s spin was too much to handle for Kanrich as they fell apart in the middle overs. Angelo bagged 4 wickets and with the support of Isuru Udana, they managed to clean up Kanrich for 134 runs.

In reply, LB did not waste any time in chasing down the target. They got over the line in just 23.3 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Dhananjaya De Silva top scored with 30 for LB Finance.

HNB vs Sampath Bank

HNB managed to hold on to a very tight 5 run victory against Sampath Bank at Moratuwa. HNB won the toss and elected to bat but got off to a poor start, losing a couple of early wickets. But two composed half centuries from Sameera Soyza and young Navindu Nirmal helped them post 186 runs. Tharindu Kaushal picked up 4 for 36 for Sampath Bank.

In reply, Sampath Bank could not get any partnerships going at the top of the order. The only notable contribution came from Avishka Fernando who top scored with 38 runs. Despite a late resurgence from Dushmantha Chameera, Sampath Bank fell 5 runs short of the target. Lahiru Vimukthi and Naveen Goonwardane bagged 3 wickets each for HNB.

DIMO vs Hayleys

DIMO registered a comprehensive 6 wicket victory against Hayleys at the MCA grounds after winning the toss and electing to field first. Hayleys were restricted to 177 runs in 42 overs. Chanaka Ruwansiri played a lone hand in their innings with 71 runs  while Nisala Tharaka was the pick of the bowlers for DIMO with 3 for 33.

In reply, DIMO took their time and reached the target in the 42nd over with 6 wickets in hand. Sammu Ashan top scored with an unbeaten 71 while Lasith Abeyaratna and Thikshila De Silva chipped in with valuable cameos.
