Lankan Cricket Club stun favourites Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), by defeating them by 59 runs in the final of the SLC Major Club Youth Tournament which held today at SSC Grounds in Colombo.

After winning the toss, SSC skipper Shammu Ashan chose to field first and they got off to a good start with the ball dismissing 3 quick wickets in the top order for 61 runs. However, Kevin Perera and Kasun Abeyrathne rebuilt the innings putting up a 76-run partnership for the 4th wicket.
Abeyrathne top scored with 51 runs off 66 balls including 4 fours and a six while Perera contributed with valuable 40 runs off 53 balls with 3 fours and a six. After being 137 for 3 at one stage, the visitors witnessed a batting collapse as they lost the remaining 7 wickets for 86 runs.

The skipper Shammu Ashan and left-arm spinner Dilum Sudeera impressed with the ball for SSC taking 3 scalps apiece. Chasing 224 runs to win, the star-studded batting line-up struggled with the bat losing wickets at regular intervals.
The opening batsman Nipun Dhananjaya who made a match-winning half-century in the semi-final game, scored 38 runs off 61 balls while number 4 batsman Krishan Sanjula made 30 runs off 51 balls but both of them were dismissed before the 25th over putting the hosts under pressure at 90 for 5.
Mathews and Chandimal smash centuries in intra-squad one-day game
The skipper Ashan was the lone fighter for SSC as wickets were falling at the other end and he too had to give his wicket away at the end with the required rate kept increasing. Ashan top scored with 50 runs off 65 balls including 6 fours.
The left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage was the pick of the bowlers for Lankan CC as he grabbed 3 wickets. Yasiru Rodrigo, Sandu Sathsara and Sawan Kankanange picked up 2 wickets apiece.
