Lakkana Jayasekara (111)* and Sahan Arachchige’s (102*) unbeaten centuries helped Ananda College beat Wesley College by an innings and 48 runs in their 1st XI match that was played at Wesley College grounds (Campbell Park).
Winning the toss and bowling first Wesley College failed to restrict Ananda as they posted a mammoth 316 for 3d in 63 overs. Lakkana Jayasekara top scored with 111 not out and Sahan Arachchige scored an unbeaten 102 as the duo helped Ananda passed 300.
Batting in their first innings Wesley College managed only 137 as they were bowled out in 47 overs. Shamodh Athulathmudali top scored for Wesley with 42 while Dilanka Sandakan took 5/25 for Ananda College.
Trailing by 179 Wesley was asked to follow-on, Wesley could only manage 131 as they were bowled out in 43.3 overs. Zenith Wickramanayake missed a hard earned half century as he was dismissed for 49 and Captain Jonathan Cadiramanpulle made 44 but it was not enough as Ananda College won by an innings and 48 runs. Dilanka Sandakan took 4/37 and Sammu Ashan managed 3/51 for Ananda.
