Fast bowler Lahiru Kumara bagged three wickets on day two of the tour match against the South African Invitation XI while Angelo Mathews and Dilruwn Perera managed two wickets a piece.
Resuming from an overnight score of 328 for 6 Sri Lanka added a further 45 runs before being bowled out for 373 in the first session of play.
The visitors returned to the middle with a score to bowl at and began brightly as Nuwan Pradeep and Angelo Mathews struck early in the innings.
With the South African Invitation XI’s batting being their strong suit, stepped up Leus du Plooy as the left handed number three batsman made a magnificent 142 off 159 balls with 25 fours.
Sri Lankan paceman Lahiru Kumara rose to the occasion as he put a halt to du Plooy and bagged two further wickets as the African team ended day two with 285 for the loss of 8 wickets.
Apart from du Plooy’s big score, no other batsman managed a 30+ score with 25 been the next best by Khaya Zondo and George Linde.
