The Sri Lanka speedster Lahiru Kumara, who was supposed to tour to the West Indies with the team, has tested positive for COVID-19 virus following the PCR tests conducted on the nominated squad yesterday (21).
The Sri Lankan contingent is set to take wing to the Caribbean tonight and the results of other players will be out before that.
ThePapare.com learns that Suranga Lakmal will be the most likely candidate to replace Kumara in the tour.
The SLC said they “will continue with normal operations, adhering to the stipulated Health Protocols,” in their media release.
Kumara was named in both Test and limited overs squads of Sri Lanka who are set out to play 2 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Tests in the Caribbean.
The right-arm seamer last played for Sri Lanka in the boxing day Test against South Africa last year, during which he picked up an injury which kept him out of the team for the rest of that tour. Upon his recovery, he couldn’t find a spot in Sri Lanka’s playing XI in their 2-Test series against England.
