    Commando Super Cross 2017

Having inaugurated last year, the second edition of the Commando Super Cross concluded today (16th) at the Commando Supercross race track situated at the commando training camp in Kuda oya.

Sri Lanka’s longest and probably one of the fastest, Commando suoercross entered the history books today as the first race that used the ‘joker lap’ named the commando lap. This was introduced in the SL – H event and the SL GT super car event. During the 8 laps it was mandatory for all the drivers to include the commando lap within the first 7 lap.

Deshan Solanki brought Imal Manchanayake’s winning streak in the Group SM 250cc up to 450cc . Manchanayake has been dominating the event but Solanki who has been made to be satisfied with the second place put in a gutsy performance to get ahead of Manchanayake in the first race. Imal who didn’t want to go down without a fight attempted an industrious overtake on Solanki in a corner but lost his footing in the proceed and lost his balance handing Solanki lead that was not caught up till the checkered flag. Imal however bounced straight back in the second race of the same event to regain lost glory and defeating Solanki while Uddika Srilak was placed 3rd in both the races.

Ishan Dassanayake continued his good form as he clinched the award for the best rider at Commando Supercross 2017. Having not participated in the inaugural edition this was Dassanayake’s first outing at the Supercross race track and he made sure that it was a memorable debut for him. Only lapse, if it maybe called one was his second place finish in the Group Mx up to 125cc event where he was beaten by an ambitious Buddhika Kasun Amjad. However in the 250cc event Ishan showed why he is the premier MX rider in the Island as he was fast to get out of the gate and showed real calmness and composure during the race to clinch both races and with it the title.

Kushan Peiris stole the limelight of the race as he managed to be adjudged the best driver at cavalry Supercross and also won both SL GT cars up to 3500cc event. It was the maiden title and the first double win in the main event for the budding youngster who managed the rest winning the all important race. The win is even more special as he achieved it in the midst of drivers of the caliber of Ushan Perera, Ashan Silva and Pasidu Peiris. Ushan Perera the reigning chammpion was placed at the top of the starting grid as he finished with the best timing yesterday with a new track record. But Kushan was not going to let anyone spoil his debut title win as he displayed that he belongs in the big league and drives like a true champion.

There were a few accidents that happened during the race with a crash that Pasindu Peiris was involved looking the most brutal out of all. He stepped out of the car with his thumbs up but was later rushed to medical attendance seemingly a little disoriented. We at ThePapare.com eagerly hope Pasindu a speedy recovery and hope to update you regarding any devolopment.
