India won the second Test against Sri Lanka by 278 runs as batting legend Kumar Sangakkara had to face a defeat in his final international game which concluded at P. Sara Oval grounds.

Sri Lanka lost 7 wickets for only 58 runs in the opening session on day five as India leveled the three-match series, 1-1 with the final game minus Kumar Sangakkara will be played at SSC grounds starting from August 28th.

The hosts’ resumed from their overnight score of 73 for 2 but Sri Lanka lost their skipper Angelo Mathews in the very first ball when he poked at Umesh Yadav’s opening delivery and was caught cleverly by keeper KL Rahul.

Dinesh Chandimal was bowled around his legs while attempting a sweep off Amit Mishra. Lahiru Thirimanne was caught sharply by silly mid-off fielder, Chestheshwar Pujara.

Jehan Mubarak’s miserable series continued as he was caught at slips for a golden duck by Ishant Sharma as Sri Lanka slipped to 111 for 6.

Dimuth Karunarathne fought bravely to save Sri Lanka but his resolute innings of 46 off 103 balls was ended by R Ashwin.

The tail was never a match for the four-man bowling attack of India. Virat Kohli’s first win as the Test captain was delayed by rain with an early-lunch was taken at 11.50am.

After lunch, Indians finished off their good work as last-man Dushmantha Chameera was trapped LBW for 4 by Amit Mishra who ended with a three-wicket haul while his partner-in-crime R Ashwin claimed yet another five-wicket haul.
