In a thrilling encounter Gurukula College Kelaniya held its own against the fancied Peterite out fit in a match played at Moors grounds yesterday.
St. Peter’s took first lease of the wicket thundering in a 156 all out in 19.5 overs. Shasheen Fernando blasted his way through for 65 while Lahiru Milanatha chipped in with 26 quick runs. For Gurukula Namal Pathum took 3 for 15 in a significant spell to keep the Bambalapitiya team in check.
In reply, chasing 157 Gurukula fell short by 14 runs though Nalin Perera top scored on 61 taking the fight to the opposition.
Pathum played a part in the batting as well adding 15 runs. Julian de Zylva of St Peters came up with a sterling performance scalping 4 wickets despite going for 60 runs.
