The lads from Randles Hill, Kingswood College, Kandy, beat their traditional rivals from Colombo, Wesley College, 1-0 in the Annual Brotherhood Derby Football Encounter, played for the Kenneth M. De Lanerolle Shield at the Colombo Racecourse on Saturday (5th).
Kingswood College secured their fourth consecutive win, taking home the silverware once again, denying Wesley what could have been their maiden victory in the series. The boys from the Hill Capital have consistently maintained a high-scoring performance in past encounters, with the lads from Campbell Park, Colombo, coming out strong this year under the leadership of skipper Abdul Haadhi, who had just finished a successful rugby season for the Double Blues.
Wesley’s title hopes were dashed early in the game, as Umar Shareef (8) of Kingswood scored a stunning goal off a header in the 3rd minute, putting the visitors in control for the remainder of the match.
Despite Wesley dominating possession, their struggles continued on the football field, with a losing streak becoming a concerning trend for the boys in blue.
