Kingswood College, Kandy managed to outplay a lackluster Maliyadeva College outfit to win their Singer Schools Rugby encounter by 62 points to 12, as the Kings from the Randles Hill put on a commanding performance up in Nittawela today.
Asiri Senevirathne of Kingswood College kick-started proceedings for the hosts at Nittawela, and it did not take long for the hometown boys to draw first blood as Milan Weerasinghe managed to move over the try line five minutes into the start of play. Hirusha Sampath made absolutely no mistake with his first conversion of the game. (KCK 07 – 00 MC)
But the visitors wasted no time in replying as skipper Kausalya Gunaweera managed to gain three points for his team off a straight forward penalty kick. (KCK 07 – 03 MC)
The Devans did not manage to collect the ball cleanly off the restart and were heavily penalized as Mohomed Shazan managed to score five points for the hosts with Hirusha Sampath following it up with the extras. (KCK 14 – 03 MC)
The Kings did not stop there as they gained another five points in the 18th minute of the game as Thuwan Dilshan mauled his way through to the try line off a Kingswood line out. Hirusha Sampath failed to add the extras off a tight angle this time around. (KCK 19 – 03 MC)
The hosts made full use of a scrum offered to them in the 25th minute, as winger Dakshina Athukorala managed to move over the white line for the bonus point try thanks to a set play off a good scrum. Hirusha Sampath failed to bisect the posts and add the extras for the second time of the day. (KCK 24 – 03 MC)
The hosts managed to secure five more points as Milan Weerasinghe went over the try line once again thanks to a Kingswood maul off a lineout close to the Maliyadeva whitewash. Hirusha was off target once again as he missed out on two more points before referee Kelum Sandaruwan blew the whistle for lemons.

Kingswood College did not waste much time with the commencement of the second half as Mohomed Shazan crossed the try line for the hosts after a great run by Hirusha Sampath from the center of the field. Hirusha was spot on with the extras this time around. (KCK 36 – 03 MC)
The duo did not stop there as Shazan scored his 3rd try of the game, this time under the post, as Hirusha soared in the extras in the 46th minute. A few minutes later Kingswood managed to add five more points to their total thanks to an unconverted try by number 8 Apoorva Wijesinghe. (KCK 48 – 03 MC)
Maliyadeva skipper and fullback Kaushalya Gunaweera managed to gain three points for his team off a successful penalty conversion in the 53rd minute, but the star of the day’s play Hirusha Sampath made sure that the visitors did not have any time whatsoever to relax, as he made a stunning run defeating three to four defenders with ease to score under the post. He ultimately ended up converting his own try, extending the lead by 49 points. (KCK 55 – 06 MC)
Maliyadeva skipper Kaushalya once again secured three points for his team in the 61st minute, but Kingswood number 10 Asiri Senevirathne continued the try-fest to score the tenth try for the home team as Vishalka Sulakshana followed it up with the extras this time. (KCK 62 – 09 MC)

It was clear that the Kings from Randles Hill were far too good for the boys from Kurunegala as the hosts managed to record ten tries thanks to some wonderful set plays. The visitors failed to find a way to slow the Kingswood rampage down, and had no answer as the home team went on to score try after try after try.
