It was the final day of the Rugby Rumble, a tag seven’s tournament for schools old boys held for the first time at the Havelocks grounds. The mastermind of this tournament Dilroy Fernando, tournament director said, that everything went well and mentioned it would be even better next time.
The event held in carnival atmosphere there were plenty of fun activities going on for kids and everyone else as many came with their families to enjoy the rugby and everything else. The after party was rounded off by a band from Singapore performing live at the grounds.
There were also well known rugby players who represented their country in their peak who were also playing for their respected schools at the rumble. Pavithra Fernando, Nalaka Weerakkody, Nilfer Ibrahim, Neil Foote, Sudath Sampath, Nalin Dissanayake, T.K Boran, Rizan Saldin and Duminda Pulakudaarachchi were some of them.
The over 25’s cup final was won by Science College who beat D.S.Senanayake College. Old Ben´s beat Ananda in the plate final. Zahira beat St.Josephs in the bowl final.
In the over 35’s cup final Kingswood College led by Nilfer Ibrahim beat Dharmaraja in a close final. Isipathana ´B’ beat Zahira in the plate final. Wesley beat Ananda in the bowl final. St.Josephs got a walk over from Mahanama in the shield final.
The Cup winners were awarded Rs. 250,000 /- and runner up Rs. 100,000/- for both the age categories.
