Keemo Paul will replace Shimron Hetmyer in the Windies squad for the third and final Test against Sri Lanka in Barbados, it was confirmed on Tuesday (June 19). Hetmyer has been rested and given time to recuperate from an illness before the two-day practice game against Bangladesh later this month.

“Hetty is a big part of our future and now we want him to recover fully from his illness, so he can be at his best for the warm-up match versus Bangladesh,” Stuart Law, the coach, said.

Paul hasn’t featured in a Test for Windies but has played four ODIs and four T20Is so far. He has five wickets in ODIs at an average of 25 and an economy of 3.94. In his last outing for the Windies, in the one-off T20I charity clash against World XI, Paul picked up 1 for 24 from his three overs.

Windies won the first Test by 226 runs and then managed to draw the second contest in St. Lucia. The Barbados will be played under lights with a pink ball. This series will be followed by a visit from Bangladesh, who are set to play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is in the Caribbean.
