Prima Cup Final – Kavindu Umayanga smashes ton on day one

Kavindu Umayanga of Western Province South Outer scored a brilliant 122 which guided his team to 299 at stumps on day 1 in the final of Prima U15 Provincial Tournament. 

The battle for the provincial crown began today in Colombo. Two western province teams got through to the finals after performing well in the group stages. Western Province South Outer won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a good start with a 86 run opening stand. Opening batsman Kamil Minhara scored 72 runs which gave Western South Outer the upper hand in the first session. 

Manisha Rupasinghe of Western Central got his team back into the match with the prized wicket of Kamil. Western South Outer was still in a commanding position at 171 for 4 and then came the hero of the today’s play Kavindu Umayanga. Kavindu played a brilliant knock despite the fall of wickets on the other end. His knock of 122 had 16 boundaries and 2 maximums. He found some sort of a support from Ashan Dilhara who chipped in with a valuable 29 down the order. 

In the bowling department, Yasiru Kasthuriarachchi stood out with figures of 4 for 77. Manisha Rupasinghe bagged 2 for 63 while Amitha Dabare and Miranga Wickramathilake took one wicket each. At stumps on day 1 Western South Outer were 299 for the loss of 8 wickets.
