Sri Lanka’s left-arm pacie Vishwa Fernando has been withdrawn from the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh due to concussion protocols.
Fernando was hit on the head by Shoriful Islam while batting just prior to Tea on day 2 and received treatment on the field before continuing to bat on, after a change of helmet, until the break.
He did not take the field following Tea but came out to bat once again after the fall of the 9th wicket and then took the new ball for Sri Lanka late on day 2 and bowled early on day 3 as well.
Fernando’s 17* off 84 balls provided invaluable support to Angelo Mathews as the pair put on 54 runs for the 9th and 10th wicket (47* – 9th wicket | 7 – 10th wicket).
With Fernando being withdrawn, Sri Lanka will have the services of right-armer Kasun Rajitha as his concussion sub. Rajitha has not played Test cricket in well over a year, having last represented the country in whites back in December 2020.
