Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka has been picked up by Kandy Falcons to play in the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022, after going unsold at the draft held earlier this month.
Nissanka will now join his Sri Lanka T20 teammates Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne in the Falcons lineup.
Welcoming Pathum Nissanka, the Kandy franchisee owner Parvez Khan said, “Pathum’s inclusion will not only strengthen our batting but his recent experience playing in the Sri Lanka T20 team will be a huge asset to the team. I am sure the fans will be happy to see him in action for Kandy Falcons in the LPL.”
Nissanka is the highest ranked Sri Lankan batsman in the ICC T20 batting rankings. He currently stands in 8th position. Meanwhile, Kandy Falcons have also replaced Pakistan fast bowler Usman Shinwari, who will miss the tournament due to an injury, with Pakistan fast bowler Ahmed Daniyal. Daniyal played for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League held early this year.
The 3rd edition of the Lanka Premier League, Sri Lanka’s top-most domestic T20 Tournament, will be held from 31st July to 21st August 2022. The games of the much-awaited competition will be played at the RPICS, Colombo, and the MRICS, Hambantota.
