Kandy Bash for a cause this September

Currently schools in the Central Province face many difficulties when they come to the capital city for any sports or curricular matter due to heavy costs of accommodation.

This has been a major drawback in their side affecting their sporting avenues as they are faced with no option but to draw out of the competition if they do not find the required accommodation.

Understanding this matter and the important crisis at hand, the founders of the Kandy Students Past Pupils Association which is a body created for the alumni of the Kandy schools residing in Colombo came forward with the idea of building a hostel. The Kandy Students Past Pupils Association was the brainchild of two alumni from Dharmaraja College and Girls High School who understood that there was no place for the old boys and girls of the Kandy schools to gather for friendship and camaraderie. Founded on the principles of brotherhood, the association intended to help out and uplift the schools situated in the locale of the Central region.

The hostel that was established by the Association in Ratmalana in the Sarvodaya premises came in as a solution to many schools giving them affordable accommodation when they arrive in Colombo for their activities. This was a definite success as many lower grade schools that operate with minimum or no funds found the hostel coming in handy for their activities.

Still under development, the association hopes to uplift the facility by increasing the capacity to 100 and thus organizes the Kandy Bash. Currently the facility has to incur a cost of about Rs. 300,000/= for utilities and they hope that the carnival will bring in the funding for the venture.

Kandy Bash, is a carnival organized by the Kandy Students Past Pupils Association will happen for the 7th consecutive occasion on the 19th of September in aid of the worthy cause.

Founded in 2007 by the association, the carnival has been an active gathering for the alumni of the schools in Kandy and is one of the premiere events undertaken by the body annually as a fundraiser in order to accumulate enough finances for a worthy cause.

This year’s carnival is tagged with the theme “Memories re-visited” and will take place on the 19th of September 2015 at the CR & FC grounds 2.00 p.m. onwards. The extravagant event will feature fun filled activities all throughout the day for the entire family and will conclude with an evening of fellowship.

The organizers also wishes to inform the readers that if anyone wishes to make a considerable donation for the premises, they can do so by contacting the organizers Mr. Priyankara Perera on  777 323 243.
