One time Premier League Champions Jupiters SC, Red Star, Iruthayaraj SC, Young Star SC, Olympic SC, Rangers and Silver Star secured wins inching themselves closer to the business end of the Cargills Food City FA Cup.
Group A
In Round 4 Red Star were pushed to the limit by Green Field. After a hard fought battle it was deadlocked 0-0 at full time. The pressure was on Red Star – the favourites – playing in front of their home fans, but they managed to hold their nerve to win 3-1 on penalties.
Division I playing Keteriyans SC had an easier 4th round winning 3-0 against Real Fighters. Another one of Division I clubs Jupiters SC who are not having a good time in the division, kept their hopes alive with a strong 3-1 win against Eleven Star SC which moved them into the 6th round.
Group B
In Round 3 S.Peter’s SC and Young Birds SC made it to the 4th round. S.Peter’s SC defeated Evenal Kalaimagal 2-1 while Yound Birds from Mulativu beat Puthukudiruppu with a similar scoreline.
In Round 4 Singing Fish routed S.Anthony’s 6-1 in Jaffna. Iruthayaraj SC won 3-1 on penalties against S.Mary’s from Kilinochchi after both sides failed to score in normal time. Elanthair SC from Vadamarachchi scored three goals against Vallapadu SC to move into the 5th round.
Group C
Eastern Eagles defeated Pioneers SC from Kinniya 3-0 to book a place in the 5th round while Yound Star pummeled St.Ignatius 8-1 to qualify from 5th round. Olympic SC also moved into 6th round after a close 1-0 win over Division club Eastern Youth SC.
Group D
In Round 4 Rangers SC won 3-0 against Blackpool SC while Young Birds from Nuwaraeliya and Silver Star won 2-0 and 3-0 against Gampola’s Young Friends and Hali Ela SC respectively.
