In one of the most one sided matches Joseph Vaz scored 13 goals against Lyceum International School while S. Mary’s scored 6 goals against Royal Institute, in the Kotmale Chox U19 Schools’ Football Championship.

Lucky 13 for Joseph Vaz

Lyceum International School who made the long trip to Wennappuwa for their group match were in for a rude shock as Joseph Vaz showed no mercy in romping to an easy 13-0 win.

The Lyceum players were chasing shadows throughout the match and were no match to the superior Joseph Vaz attack.

The Joseph Vaz match played in their home ground saw the forwards combining well and scoring at regular intervals to make the huge score. Now Joseph Vaz is heading the group with 2 good wins and 6 points as they beat Holy Cross also by 4 goals in the last week encounter at Kalutara. Also the highest scorer of the day was Menuka Kelum who scored 4 goals for Joseph Vaz and Supun Lakruwan scored a hatrick in the second half.  At half time it was 9 – 0.

In the second half Joseph Vaz toned down their attack settling into a passing game and made it look like a practice session for them. The hatricks by Joseph Vaz main striker Supun Lakruwan in the second half and Manuka Kelum made them the first to score a hat-trick in the Chox tournament.

S. Mary’s too good for Royal Institute

It was a good win for St. Mary’s, Negombo as they badly needed the 3 points with a win to have some hopes to be in the group at the qualifying stage. Last week they squandered a two goal lead against Maris Stella in a 6-2 loss.

S.Mary’s lads put behind their loss and put in a controlled performance in the first half to take a lead of 1-0 into the break. They upped the tempo in the second half to score a further five goals with Sumedha Fernando scoring two goals. Royal Institute who played well in the first half let the game slip away with their lack of fitness evident as the match went on.
