Dilip Peiris scored a brace while Jeewantha and Insaf scored a goal each as Maris Stella College defeated Royal College 4-0 at the Stanley Janz Grounds.
Jeewantha, Dilip shine against Royal
Credit must be given to both sides for playing the match on a horrible ground which was only conducive to play softball cricket not a major school’s football match.
Both sides struggled from the get -go because of the ground conditions with players slipping all over the place and unable to control the ball. The first opportunity came Royal’s way in the 10th minute when a defensive mix up let Naveen Jout through who laid it off to Mohomed Sajid whose effort went just over the cross bar.
In the 27th minute Mohomed Insaf scored the opener drilling past a low shot which took a bad bounce on its way to the goal while the flummoxed goalkeeper Mushtaq Ramzi looked on. Just before halftime Maris Stella doubled their lead through Dilip Peiris who took full advantage of a poor defensive clearance to calmly slot past the keeper.
Royal had the opportunity to reduce the lead but Jout scuffed his shot after turning past two defenders. Five minutes into the second half Dilip added his second and shortly afterwards Jeewantha Fernando rose above all to meet the ball and head it beyond the goalkeeper for the fourth goal.

S.Mary’s come back from behind to defeat S.Thomas’
S.Thomas’ College twice took the lead but couldn’t capitalize on it as they stumbled in the latter half of the match to lose 4-2 to S. Mary’s College.
Akhil Fernando opened the scoring for the Thomians but were pegged back by a Ashan Peiris goal just before half time. After lemons Quaaid Huzair gave S.Thomas’ the lead again but a horrible goalkeeping error by the Thomian keeper gave K.D.S. Fernando to equalize. There on in K.D.S. Fernando and Nimeshka Peiris scored the rest to cap off the host’s comeback.
